SELECTIVE OUTRAGE IN ELEPHANT TRAGEDY ISSUE
What is selective outrage? Sometimes people use it to mean pretend outrage, in which people cry “crocodile tears” over things that don’t really upset them. I think we should reserve the term for displays of outrage that are sincere, though disproportionate and lacking in intellectual integrity.
ELEPHANT TRAGEDY ISSUE
In Kerala a pregnant wild elephant was allegedly fed a pineapple with firecrackers inside leading to her death in Silent Valley Forest. The firecrackers exploded in her mouth when she chomped on the fruit. Yes this is a brutal act done by a person, and I am not here to support that person by any means. But I would just like to make it to your notice that how India reacted towards it
- 100 tweets by bollywood actors
- 50 tweets by cricketers or sportspersons
- 500 tweets from liberals and politicians
So what does it mean, simply it is a plan which is being executed wisely with the help of media just to degrade Kerala's intense effort and sucess in tackling with the COVID 19.
REAL PROBLEMS IN INDIA
The challenges currently faced by India is
- increasing number of corona patients and its death rate,
- violence against women
- unemployment etc.
THE MODEL STATE- KERALA
Then why is social media giving so much promotion of this news. Just because its happened in KERALA. All of us know that the central government continues its discriminatory stance against Kerala even while providing assistance to mitigate the corona virus pandemic. Even though Kerala received less aids from government we became a MODEL STATE in the fight against corona virus.
Kerala has emerged as a winner in the fight against this deadly disease around the world. The achievements of Kerala in the health sector is a model for the country as well as for the world now. The state has been maintaining quality of care right from the primary health to the medical college sector.Congrats to the Kerala government especially the state health minister Mrs K K Shailaja teacher.
Yes this is the issue of concern ,why this elephant tragedy news is getting so much promotion , Just think about it.
Selective outrage is when the media or a group of people becomes completely hysterical over what one person or group of people says or does , but ignores and or censors when others say or do similar or worse things.Everyone loves to vent their anger against anything that happens, and that too publicly.Politicians and well-known commentators are more apt targets of this kind of scrutiny, partly because their statements carry a greater degree of significance. Even though, most criticisms worth making can be made without mention of selective outrage
To all those celebrities who tweeted about the elephant tragedy issue, are you aware about an incident which occurred few weeks back in India itself. A goods train crushed 16 migrant laborers to death in Aurangabad. A few days have passed since this tragedy , but I still find myself at a loss while trying to decide which is more heart breaking,
If you prick us, do we not bleed?
if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison
us, do we not die?
William Shakespeare wrote those lines in The Merchant of Venice more than four centuries ago, but they hold true today too.
